Objectivity
"The Yankee payroll argument ain't flying this year, Boston fans. If your team isn't there in October (and don't worry, they will be), you can look at that three-month stretch where the Red Sox had every opportunity to put the Yankees away and couldn't close the door."
That was posted, by me, August 4, 2006 as part of the entry Cry, Cry, Cry. Seeing as how it whas a whole five days ago, it's understandable that you guys have already forgotten it.
Try actually reading the blog before you decide to tell me what I did and didn't say.
Also, if you'd bothered to read the post entitled Little of This, Little of That, you'd understand that my attitude has nothing to do with living up to the title of the blog and everything to do with the early 90's and 2004. Again, if you're just coming here to insult and argue, more power to you, but you'd be better served to actually read the posts before you argue them. Just a suggestion.
At the end of this 21-game stretch, the Yankees will have squandered their season and you'll be wondering how it happened. All you had to do was pay attention.
And yes, I honestly believe that.

Kasey, you and Jonathan (Red Sox Nation Daily) should have a 'Pessim-off' to see who can be more negative about their own team
(right now, i'd say you have the lead)

Kasey, your boys are rolling i even wrote today you guys should let chicago win all three that way you guys will not have to worry about the redsox in the postseason this year...the sox will go 3-3 this week at best thus ending the season in my mind...keep in mind the sox are 25-27 versus winning teams...and they have 32 of 51 games versus good teams

i want to clarify: i don't think optimistic yankee fans are idiots. i think having faith in your favorite team is a great thing. but i do think that some people are discounting the following aspects of the team:
- a-rod's propensity for a bi-weekly slump.
- randy johnson's rapid and steep decline.
- mike mussina's slide from dominant to effective.
- chien-ming wang's habit of having one bad inning per start (most of which, he negates with a double-play ball).
- jorge posada's absolute inability to hit in a two-strike count.
- craig wilson's strike-out/at-bat ratio.
- johnny damon's health.
- jason giambi's streaky hitting.
- jaret wright's inability to go deeper than 5 innings per start.
all of this stuff adds up, and it's going to come back to haunt them. big time.

Other people will counter with the Red Sox' problems, so I'm not going to bother. Suffice to say, something like Wang's habit of one bad inning doesn't match up against Jason Johnson's habit of one GOOD inning. Just an example.

if you are going to bring up the sox 3 months of ineffectiveness then you are just contradicting yourself saying tha three weeks of the yankees failing to pull away will end their season, or saying that the sox taking back first would end the yankees season, either way the two statements contradict each other.
Johnson is rapidly declining so far tonight....

posada's inability to hit with 2 strikes is not going to effect anybody but posada, mussina has had what, 2 bad starts in a row? He is human. Now wang is not allowed a tough inning? the dp to get out of it is exactly what makes him so good And both mussina and wang are a WHOLE lot more reliable than beckett. I would rather have one poor inning then a few bad starts in a row. Wright is a 5 starter and at least he can pitch 5 effective unlike wells, he is more like lester who is the sox 4 starter and right now 3. They have dealt with giambi and a rod's streaky hitting all year and have continued to win and after 4 months it has not stopped them yet so why the final two? And damon's health concerns me too but i think he will play through anything, prob miss a couple games after tonight though, good thing we have 4 competant outfielders.

johnson sure was awful tonight...you were right....AGAIN!....good call on last night being their only chance to win too....i'm sure the next entry is that "farnsworth is back to being terrible and we will see that all year long" or "Mariano is getting old, he is finished" but uh, yeah redsox, struggling with the ROYALS again.

"Randy Johnson's line tonight will be: 4 2/3 IP, 6 R, 6 ER, 9 H, 3 BB, 1 K. He'll take the loss."
Randy Johnson's line actually was: 6 IP, 2 R, 2 ER, 3H, 2 BB, 5 K. He got the win.
First time poster here. I usually avoid you blog, since I usually like a little objectivity in my pessimism.
